My name is John Glock. I live in the USA. The one near the Gulf of Mexico, not the Gulf of America. I’m an artist, writer, and educated overthinker. Even earned a BA in Philosophy for street cred.
My primary medium is pen & ink, although most of my work here is done in Procreate. I originally intended to make detailed adult coloring pages, but it seems I’m only good for making elaborate narrative images.
Although Codefreespirit has been around since 2000, I’ve never had the time to treat it as more than a hobby. 25 years later, I finally have the meager resources to see if I can make a living on here.
The goal is create a new work of art each month, which you can download for a reasonable price and DIY print as many times as you wish. Subscribers to The Codefreespirit Circle get member access to every new work and the archive of past works as well as some extra goodies now and then.
The Road Ahead…
It’s early days in this chapter of my life, so this site is a little sparse. The mission right now is to get to 1K subscribers in the Circle (O). If I reach that benchmark, I could move onto producing creative work full time.
I know, I know. Every artist hopes for this sort of thing. I have so many creative ideas, stories to turn into graphic novels, games I want to design, but like almost every other artist out there, I’ve got a day job to keep up with the realities of life.
The other reality I’m facing is reaching 50 years old, and not having the physical stamina to continue my employment. Well, unless I had great healthcare, but how do you afford that these days? I don’t want to sound like a GoFundMe, but times change and making a living at art is a whole different ballgame than when I was in my 20’s.
I hope you’ll join me in making my life mission possible. I’m pretty transparent about things and not asking for much more than the cost of a cup of coffee a month (maybe even less depending on where you get coffee) or a family dinner one time a year. My art and my site are just me right now. No marketing team. No personal assistants. One guy chilling on his iPad, trying to make art that means something rather than pumping out content like a machine.
